01

The challenge

Many restaurants still run on closed POS terminals with expensive hardware and per-device licences. Menu changes need a call to the vendor, reports are basic, and connecting online orders is an extra project. Staff turnover in hospitality is high, so every new employee has to learn a complicated interface during a busy shift.

02

What we built

BitePOS runs in the browser on any tablet or laptop. The order screen is designed for speed: categories and items as large tiles, modifiers in one tap, split bills and table management. The back office handles menus, prices, images, staff and opening hours, and dashboards show sales by hour, item and staff member.

Payments are integrated through Stripe; menu images are stored in Amazon S3 with signed URLs. For German cash payments, a certified TSE (KassenSichV) must be connected before go-live.

03

Architecture & stack

  • Frontend: Next.js and React with Radix UI primitives and shadcn/ui components, fully keyboard- and touch-friendly.
  • Data: PostgreSQL for orders, menus and reporting.
  • Files: Amazon S3 with pre-signed uploads for menu images.
  • Payments: Stripe.
  • Charts: Recharts for sales dashboards.
  • Deployment: Docker images for cloud or on-premise hosting.

04

The outcome

BitePOS shows how modern web technology can replace closed, expensive hardware in hospitality: faster onboarding for staff, menu changes in seconds and reports owners actually read. Building something similar? Talk to us about custom software & SaaS.
